If you're new to the world of trade shows—or even if you’ve done a few but still feel like you’re figuring things out, one of the biggest questions you’ll face is: What kind of booth should I choose?
The layout and format of your booth can have a major impact on how attendees engage with your brand and how successful your presence is on the show floor.
Let’s take a look at the most common booth types so you can walk into your next event feeling confident and prepared.
Inline Booths
Inline booths are the most common setup, especially for first-time exhibitors. These typically measure 10' x 10' or 10' x 20' and are arranged in a straight row with neighbouring booths on both sides. Since they’re only open at the front, your back wall becomes the focal point for attracting attention. They’re compact, cost-effective, and perfect for delivering a clean, professional message without stretching your space or your budget.
Corner Booths
Corner booths sit at the end of an aisle, giving you exposure on two open sides: the front and one side wall. Usually available in 10' x 10' sizes, they offer more visibility and foot traffic compared to inline booths, making them a great option if you're looking to stand out a bit more without upgrading to a much larger footprint.
Peninsula Booths
Peninsula booths typically start at 20' x 20' and are open on three sides, offering an inviting, accessible layout. These booths are ideal for mid-sized brands looking to feature interactive displays, product demos, or a more immersive customer experience.
Island Booths
Island booths are the most versatile and attention-grabbing setup. Open on all four sides and often starting at 20' x 20', they allow for custom layouts and 360-degree visibility. Positioned away from other booth walls, they’re perfect for large-scale activations, major launches, or brands wanting to make a bold impression from every angle.
Tabletop Displays
For smaller events, pop-up shows, or networking-focused expos, a tabletop display may be all you need. Typically placed on a 6' or 8' table, these displays are lightweight, portable, and quick to set up. They’re ideal for making simple, one-on-one connections or testing out a new show before committing to a full booth.
Perimeter Booths
Perimeter booths are located along the outer edges of the exhibit hall and are generally 10' x 10' or 10' x 20'. Because they back against a wall, you’re often allowed extra height (up to 12' in many cases), which gives you more flexibility for tall signage, shelving, or storage. These booths can feel quieter and more private, great for hosting meetings or showcasing products in a focused way.
So, What’s the Right Choice for You?
It all depends on your goals. Are you hoping to generate leads, launch a product, boost brand awareness, or test the waters at your first show?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer but knowing your options helps you make a smart choice that fits your objectives, your budget, and the experience you want to create.
